Righthaven LLC Nearing the End
January 6, 2012
Righthaven LLC, a Nevada law firm has sued
over 250 people for copyright infringements involving Las Vegas Review
Journal and the Denver Post articles. They bought copyrights when they
thought they could get some money for supposed infringements. Their business
model was to act fast and get as much money as they could from unsuspecting
people and businesses.
Their business model was flawed and
legally illogical. It was also based on fear and some even called it a scam.
Finally, the courts have ruled against them and have acted to curb their
actions.
In 2011, the courts have not been so kind
to Righthaven LLC. They lost a civil suit and today, its domain name was
sold to an unidentified buyer for about $3,300 to partially pay for a
judgment against them.
Note: This is a lot of money for a
domain name and it is likely bought by Righthaven or Stephens Media
which partnered with Righthaven LLC.
As expected, Righthaven has been
uncooperative with the court during this process but the law applies to them
as everyone else. They just have not fully recognized this and neither has
Stephens Media and Sherm Frederick who have partnered with Righthaven.
There should be consequences to this mess.
Righthaven is just now seeing that but how
about Stephens Media and Frederick? They are just as much a part of this
lawsuit scheme as Righthaven They undoubtedly think the law does not apply
to them, but it does and they must pay.
