Nikki Haley's Answer to South
Carolina's Problems
January 2, 2012
In September 2011, Nikki Haley,
Republican governor of South Carolina ordered state employees there to say,
"It's
a great day in South Carolina! How may I help you?"
when answering the phone. She said it would change the mood of state
government, boost morale and make businesses happy they contacted the state
agency. Apparently, this is all she has to “fix” the problems. The greeting
is superficial and deluded and is like saying, “ It's a great day on the
Titanic... how may I help you?”.
Now, there is push back on the
mandated greeting by two Democrat Legislators who say state employees should
not have to say it if it isn't true. For many South Carolinian, things
aren't so great. Her critics point out the state still has
a double-digit
unemployment rate and too many lack health insurance.
They are proposing a bill to prevent state employees from saying the
greeting if the unemployment rate is greater than 5 percent, if its citizens
do not have health insurance, if school funding is not sufficient so
children can compete in the 21st
century, and if the rural business infrastructure is insufficient to compete
for new business.
Plus there is Nikki Haley herself whose popularity numbers are sinking. Why?
Because she is superficial and a liar. For example she claimed she brought
ten thousand jobs to the state but that was not true... many of the jobs
were announced
before
she took office and thousands will not be in SC for years. She also said
that those looking for work at the
Savannah River Site
had a 50 percent drug test failure rate when the actual number was less than
1 percent.
She also endorsed Romney a candidate not really embraced by Republicans and
she loosened environmental regulations so the Savannah River could be
dredged for the benefit of the port in
Savannah.
She also was the force behind their “show me your papers” law and
onerous photo ID voter law meant to
disenfranchise. Luckily both of those have been blocked by the court and US
Attorney General's office, respectively.
Nikki Haley's answer
to unemployment, education inadequacies, etc is a slogan which merely a
band-aid for real problems.
Unfortunately, she
isn't afraid of the proposed law since Republicans control the Legislature.
