Sarah Palin the pseudo candidate for President remarked on Fox News Radio
today that the Obama Christmas card was “odd”. The card shows Bo (the dog)
laying near a lit fireplace with a Christmas tree nearby. She called it odd
because it highlights a dog instead of “family, faith and freedom”. She said
Americans prefer their Christmas cards to display American foundational
values.
She
also referred to the right-wing attacks about a Chairman Mao ornament on one
of the White House Christmas trees in 2009. This is yet another wing-nut dig
at Obama. One ornament was decorated with a reproduction of a painting by
Andy Warhol called “Mao” and the Obama's were not aware of it since others
decorated the tree.
No
matter. Her hateful words are just “more of the same” from a failed
candidate for VP and President.
First off... Christmas isn't about Christ. It is about buying things to keep
the economy working. It's been that way for decades and the Christmas season
is crucial to the success of most retailers. To attack Christmas as we know
it, is un-American.
Winter festivities started long ago but weren’t necessarily based on
economics like they are today. The most famous was the Roman holiday of
Saturnalia which was a time to celebrate the transition from shorter to
longer days... a change of season welcomed for its promise of a warm spring
when crops are planted and animals are hunted. The end date for that
festival was December 25th. Merging pagan festivities with Christianity was
common because it increased membership in the Church. (religious economics)
Most Christmas cards Americans get are of winter scenes, cute puppies (cats)
and some Christian icons. It is odd to say puppies and dogs aren’t part of
American values, fundamental or not.
What a clueless hypocrite.
Did
she criticize GW Bush in 2005 when he sent out cards with two dogs in the
snow? How about his 2008 card which showed a statue next to a pond with a
Christmas tree nearby a window? Both were very secular.
Maybe Palin will get over being such a witch, get a life and stop
criticizing the unimportant and focus on the solutions for unemployment and
the national debt. These things are hard for her to comprehend so she talks
about Christmas cards.
If
she is religiously offended then she needs to move to another country where
only Christianity is spoken.
