How About that
Nevada Employee Generic Lipitor “Lock Out”?
December 15, 2011
Did you know that PEBP/Catalyst Rx made a deal where plan participants are
“locked out” of getting generic Lipitor (Atorvastatin) until June 1, 2012?
This means the generic version of Lipitor will not be sold to you and you must buy
the branded version. Sure, the deal provides a small discount for branded
Lipitor but the price for the generic version will most certainly go down as
more pharmacies sell it. (Free-market working)
Fundamentally, the
State of Nevada has no business subsidizing any company. So, I wonder why
the state is subsidizing Pfizer Inc. by forcing its health insurance plan
and state employees to keep buying Lipitor?
Do this … call your
doctor’s office and asked for a different generic medication which costs
just $10 for a 90 day supply as opposed to over $350. The money you save
will go a long way to pay the plan’s higher annual deductibles and monthly
premiums. Customer choice is also free-market.
