Corruption
Isn’t Shared Sacrifice
May 9, 2011
Sandoval said in his recent
speech, “The times demand we work together. Serve together. Sacrifice
together. Only in this way will we succeed together.” All this is shallow
political rhetoric because there are disparities in sacrifice and service
and he knows it. Reality shows the shared sacrifice does not apply to many,
such as mining which pays nearly nothing by scamming the tax system or
gaming which pays the lowest taxes on earth and can make millions in these
times to build casinos in foreign countries.
Most importantly Sandoval’s has
yet to address Nevada’s bad tax structure which is overly reliant on sales
taxes in general and the State Employee tax specifically to fill budget
deficits. By ignoring this problem, Sandoval effectively protects his
campaign donors at the expense of everyone else. There is no shared
sacrifice for them. They are special and don’t have to pay but state
employees must with frozen salaries, salary reductions, an increased
retirement contributions, and an expensive high deductible health insurance
plan.
As I said before on this blog,
his transparent corruption is breathtaking and I haven’t changed my mind.
This situation is made worse by those who sit in the corner of their
legislative offices and chant , “No New Taxes” as if that makes things
better or solves problems.
