A Little Rant About Nevada's
Casinos and Brothels
February 23, 2011
Harry Reid wants to eliminate legal prostitution
because he says it looks bad to companies wanting to move here as if this
brings down our economy in any significant way. Truthfully, Nevada's legal
brothels contribute significantly not only to our rural communities but also
those of Reno, Carson City and Las Vegas. Yet, he said later in an interview
that gambling though illegal in many areas is okay because it is now widely
accepted. Oh brother!
Bottom-line: I have more respect
for brothel owners than I do casino owners or Harry Reid. At least brothel
owners like Dennis Hof created his business by investing money in it, by
filling out the necessary paperwork, by paying his fees, obeying the rules
and being up front about what he does. As for casinos, they control the
legislature through political donations and lobbyists, write laws that
benefit themselves (lowest taxes on earth with lax oversight) and claim
poverty when we ask them to pay more.
On June 22, 2009, I posted: "Regulate
the Gaming Industry as it Should Be". Part of my post said this:
Our gaming laws were
changed years ago to reduce mob influence but now we have a new mob with
MBAs. They have the same immoral inclinations and also see their poorly paid
employees as simply a drag on their bottom line. This is much the same way
the governor sees state employees.
In the 1970s when I
worked in the industry we used to say, “Things were better when the mob ran
things.” and chuckled because we knew the “The Suits” (casino execs) were
greedier and more ruthless than the Mob ever was! It seems things haven’t
changed!
I have not changed my position
since then. Casino management has not changed and our new governor is like
the old one when he chants "No new taxes" from his office and offers no
realistic way to effectively meet Nevada's obligations to its citizens. It
seems things really haven’t changed!
The "No New Taxes" mantra is like
a supervisor who only chants, "Get to work" over and over from her cubicle
and expecting everything will turn out fine.
And another thing, casinos have
always.. and I mean always, have been part of illegal prostitution
and it continues to this day. If you think this is nonsense, remember it's
impossible to say that casinos are not a draw for prostitutes.
Further, I have repeatedly seen prostitutes walk past casino security
personnel in Las Vegas casinos because it's "no big deal" to have them work
the casino floor and convention areas.
If the legislature wants to
discuss prostitution, they must start with illegal prostitution and not an
easy a target such as our legal brothels.
And since I am on a rant and very
annoyed, they also need to find out why Las Vegas has an unabated and
significant child sex trafficking problem. Could it be that casinos are the
draw for that like they are for illegal adult prostitutes? Maybe Metro isn't
doing their job or are overwhelmed. Let's find out and do something.
RE: Report:
Las Vegas a Hub for Child Sex Trafficking and Child
sex slavery rages in Las Vegas.
I doubt very many companies think
of Nevada's legal brothels when they settle here in Nevada so leave them
alone and let's get to work on the illegal stuff. Now THAT would help our
image! Imagine... Nevada could be Number 1 in rooting out illegal
prostitution of all kinds ... nah... it won't happen for the reasons I have
already discussed or implied.
