Some Muslims and Their Dogs
August 23, 2010
Muslims consider dogs to be impure and
they are not to have contact with them and if they do, they must wash the
affected body part or clothing. For example if the snout contacts the hand,
the skin must be washed.
Fair enough. Good hygiene is always a
great goal.
What is unacceptable is the way
some Muslims treat dogs and use their religion to justify their abuse and
neglect of them.
For example, many Muslims bring their dogs
to clinics during Ramada-an to be killed because they say Islam “forbids
them from keeping a dog”. Then why do they have a dog in the first place?
Sometimes they will wait until the dog is
almost dead before they bring the poor animal in to be euthanized, citing
“they are not allowed to touch the dog”. Then how did they love, raise and
keep a dog; did they just throw it some food once in a while and shut the
door?
Treating dogs this way is inhumane.
The big question is: “Why would a Muslim
keep a dog if they are not allowed to touch it ?” Probably because some
Muslims like some Christians use their religion to rationalize bad and
irrational behavior. This is unforgivable and unacceptable and an insult to
Islam and all people.
If some Muslims think there is a curse on
dogs then they must not own them. And, if they do abuse them, they must be
severely punished.
