More Republican
Shenanigans
April 27, 2010
The Republican National Committee (RNC)
recently mailed out solicitations for donations under the guise of a census
document. The latest fund raising mailer has the words, “Census Document”
printed on the letter inside and they are visible through the envelope
window. This is clever, deceptive and technically legal because if the words
were on the envelope then the name and address of the sender would have to be
clearly stated.
Why use the word census at all? After all
many Republicans thought the census was bad and a way for Obama to take
control of the government somehow. Some even told their constituents not to
fill out the 2010 census form!
The RNC is using the Census office to get
more money. The RNC acted like a common criminal by finding a loophole to
confuse people into opening their mailer which is critical for obvious
reasons.
The first step to this end is to stop
people from throwing it away immediately and the words, “Census Document”
does just that. Opening the mailer will then follow because people are
curious about what the Census people want from them.
Deception is not a trait most people look
for in a person or group. Unfortunately, the RNC doesn't care and makes no
apologies because deception has real value for them. This tactic is slimy
and using the title of any government agency for mailers is wrong. This is
so typical of the Republicans to do this.
