Mitt Romney Thinks there is Free
Healthcare Already
March 5, 2010
This is what Mitt Romney said
about emergency rooms on a TV show, March 4, 2010:
“Oh,
sure. Look, it doesn't make a lot of sense for us to have millions and
millions of people who have no health insurance and yet who can go to
the emergency room and get entirely free care for which they have no
responsibility, particularly if they are people who have sufficient
means to pay their own way. “

Must Romney be excused because he
is rich or just plain dumb?
All emergency rooms bill for
their services... they bill you when you arrive, get it from the government
or write it off as a loss. In the end, everyone pays for expensive ER care.
It is better to create a system
that allows everyone to see a regular doctor and not the one in an ER. This
will keep costs down and open up ER beds for those who have a condition
requiring emergency care.
People like Romney can pay their
way and don't understand because of ignorance, willful or otherwise. They
see the ER situation as a simplistic and one dimensional problem and don't
see how and why ER visits are part of what drives up health care costs for
everyone because there is no free health care.
They don't care because they can
afford any type of care they want while everyone else picks up the tab in
higher insurance premiums.
