Pre-existing Conditions As A Way To Profit From Misery
September 19, 2009
Health
Insurance companies have it their way because they have friends in the
Republican Party where the current health insurance legislation and debate
in Congress is stalled because of their lies and obstruction.
For Republican
politicians, their work is clear, they do what insurance companies tell them
to and in return they get money for their campaigns.
Health insurance
companies make profit by collecting premiums and making sure they pay out as
little as possible. They have done well these past few decades and the
cornerstone of their business plan is to deny coverage either upfront or
even better, after a health problem crops up and premiums have been paid.
They do this by scrutinizing the claim and contract to find ways not to pay.
It’s great money for
them, a person who paid premiums for many years can be denied coverage
because of a pre-existing condition they didn’t remember to mention when
they got the insurance or even knew about. You see, insurance companies are
not very transparent with their lists. It’s a no-win situation for the sick.
To give you and
example of some preexisting conditions:
Acne
Hemorrhoids
Bunions
Pregnancy
Being an “expectant
father”
Mental health
therapy or counseling
Intention to adopt
Having a medical
condition and you did not go to the doctor for it
Taking medications
such as Zyrtec, Lamisil
Chronic tonsillitis
Varicose veins
Obesity
Arthritis
Diabetes
Depression
Fibromyalgia
Cancer
Heart disease
Osteoarthritis,
Rotator cuff injuries
Bone spurs
Psoriasis
Abscess
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Mild asthma
Congenital conditions
Previous mental or physical abuse by
another
These are some but not all
pre-existing conditions used to deny coverage.
The inhumane way insurance
companies treat people is a great argument for a national health care plan.
A plan that demands competition between insurers, covers pre-existing
conditions and where every citizen must participate.
