John Ensign, a U.S. Republican Senator for Nevada has been caught in a scandal for his affair he had with Cynthia Hamilton. He gave her and her husband jobs and abruptly fired them after he broke it off. Then he had his parents pay the family $96,000 and called it a gift.

Ensign admitted to the affair in early summer after seeking advice from fellow Christian colleagues in Washington D.C. They were more worried about how he could get away with it so it would not affect them than they were about what is right. He also claims he did nothing illegal.

Things have gotten worse over the summer. His use of campaign funds is suspect as is lobbying efforts by his employee, Doug Hampton, the husband of his mistress. Ensign even denied he spoke to Hampton about his lobbying and this is false.

One wonders how many more lies have been told.

Undoubtedly a quiet investigation by the U.S. Justice Department has begun concerning the financial and lobbying fallout from the affair. There might even be a criminal investigation into this and hopefully the results will be in time for his re-election in a couple years.

This mess gets messier.

It is time for John Ensign to resign. He has shown he is a liar and a hypocrite. He is certainly immoral and his place in the Senate does not reflect well for family values or even respect for his family or Nevadans. This is no longer a personal matter.

John Ensign…. resign now!
