Hannity Ignorant
About Nuclear Arsenals
September 28, 2009
On September 22nd,
Sean Hannity said this on Fox News while he was interviewing Senator McCain:
"Here is the
situation. We’ve got Ahmadinejad, just on the heels of coming to New York,
again denying that the Holocaust took place. Our own national Security
Agency says that their nuclear ambitions are advancing, and at the same time
we see what happens -- we are slashing our own nuclear arsenal."

Ahmadinejad is
certainly no friend of Israel or Jews as a whole and he has certainly been
consistent in saying they must be eliminated and that the Holocaust was not
real.
However, Hannity
pairs the truth about Ahmadinejad with an implication that the U.S. is
slashing it's nuclear arsenal under Obama while we have a rising nuclear
threat with Iran.
This is factually
untrue. Here are some facts about that nuclear arsenal “slashing” Hannity
refers to in his interview.
The “slashing”
started under Ronald Reagan, a hero and demi-god to millions of Republicans.
Reagan proposed this to the USSR on June 29, 1982 and he called it SALT III
(Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty). This was later changed to START,
Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
The process began
with the dismantling of old weapons deemed unreliable and too costly to
re-mediate and progressed to an overall reduction of thousands of weapons
across all delivery platforms since that time. Now, both countries have 80
percent fewer nuclear weapons than when the treaty was signed. Amazing.
The nuclear arms
race between the U.S. and Russia was stopped because Reagan was successful.
This is an
incredible political feat which required tough realistic diplomacy which
Hannity and his supporters are clueless of and don’t care about.
Prudently, Obama
wants to continue to reduce nuclear weapons and is working with the Russian
President to develop a new START treaty. Both Presidents signed an agreement
to do just that in July 2009 since START expires December 5, 2009.
Hannity lied by
ignorance (or on purpose) and he used McCain to give himself credibility.
Shameful.
