End the Afghanistan War Now Mr. President
November 30, 2009
Tomorrow, President
Obama will announce his decision about the direction we will take in
Afghanistan. It is expected he will send more soldiers into battle, making
neo-cons, Republicans, war contractors and generals very happy.
His decision will be
reckless.
Obama was elected to
make changes in the way America does things. We knew he would have a
difficult time confronting Republicans who want things to remain the same
including war and threats of war.
Despite this pressure,
he must confront the negative forces driving him into a deeper conflict in a
lawless land filled with strife before Westerners arrived years go. It is a
war we will never win.
Obama must ignore the
demands of his generals because they have a vested interest in war. He must
not listen to neo-cons and Republicans who love war because it satisfies
their blood lust and hate. And finally he must not listen to war contractors
because war is good for their business as was proven in Iraq.
The correct and moral
decision is to
not
send more soldiers to Afghanistan and end the war ASAP. Our soldiers must
not be pawns to political and corporate greed.
Mr. Obama, end the war
in Afghanistan. This would be historic change that will save lives. It would
be change we could believe in.
