Anti-Stimulus
Hysteria and Hypocrisy
February 13, 2009
Newt Gingrich is
complaining about the Stimulus package being finalized. He said is full
of pork and is a spending bill that will cause more debt. He is so typical
of Republicans and their out of tune messages. It was okay for them to incur
10 trillion in debt and about 7 trillion in low interest loans to big
business but when a package comes along to help the average person, it is a
boondoggle.
Taxes for the rich were
slashed years ago and about 59 percent of all US companies now do not pay
any taxes at all, so how is reducing their
taxes going to help? The biggest tax burden has been on the middle class.
Bush's (and Republican) trickle down economic theory didn't work ... it
shouldn't be a surprise... because it didn't work under Ronald Reagan either
when it was called "VooDoo Economics". It was a disguise for the transfer
of wealth to the wealthy. Now THAT worked... unfortunately!
It is too late for
any Republican
to complain about deficits when they encouraged them. It is wrong for them to say
regulations caused the market crash.. it was deregulation and lack of
oversight that caused it. They allowed banks and investment firms to run amuck and called it free market until October 2008.
Certainly, about 2 percent
of the 2009 Stimulus Package is pork and that needs to go, but stimulation
is the way to stop the free fall the Republicans created in our economy.
There is no longer any choice. We are in Bush's Depression and trying to
rewrite history won't change that. Republicans like Gingrich can try, but it
will take at least a generation of good behavior on the part of Republicans
for them to get back into power. Good behavior means going back to their
roots of fiscal responsibility, strong defense and morals. They haven't had
that in decades. Pitiful!
