More Bush Oil Lies
June 18, 2008
Today, Bush, an oilman from way back, asked Congress to
clear away laws and policies impeding off shore drilling and went on to lay
the blame for the lack of drilling and high gas prices on the Democrats. He
forgets that his father banned the off shore drilling in 1990 and he (Dubya)
did nothing about high energy prices or oil drilling since 2001.
He asked: "How high do gas prices have to rise before
the Democratic Congress will do something about it?"
Well, why didn’t Bush and company “do something about it”
in 2001 through 2006? They knew about the problem and ignored it. During
that time, the Republican Party and the White House were in total and
absolute control of the government and could have easily lifted the ban on
off shore drilling, opened up ANWR and removed any impediments to building
refineries or nuclear power plants. They didn’t. They failed America again.
Bush’s announcement is just another political ploy to
help McCain and the Republican party win this Fall by blaming others. His
energy proposals will mainly help oil companies and solve nothing in the
short term for Americans. Further, if more oil production were to happen
instantly, it would not solve anything but delay the inevitable. There is
and never will be enough oil at a low price to keep our economy functioning
like we want.
As a practical first
step, Bush should ask the "big oil companies" to stop exporting American
oil. Though the amount is only about 350 million barrels a year it would
would help and be available immediately. Now THAT would help Americans now.
