Third Time Is a Charm
June 26, 2007
Unfortunately, the trial of
Chaz Higgs was suspended today because he “attempted suicide” in his
mother’s apartment in Reno. He also attempted suicide three days after he
allegedly killed his wife Kathy Augustine, Nevada’s Controller.
The latest attempt was to
avoid testifying in his trial, he knew the prosecution's cross examination
of his testimony would be difficult if not brutal. They will not be as kind
as his defense attorney.
The first time Higgs tried
kill himself was to avoid his wife’s funeral. Apparently he could not face
the reality of a public gathering and did not want to be the only one at the
funeral not crying.
Two wrist slitting
incidents makes one wonder. How far will Higgs go to avoid accepting
responsibility for his crime? It makes one wonder whether his attorneys had
a part in all this. A big show like a weak suicide attempt could get them a
mistrial which would make the second trial easier to manage. They could
change their strategy and propose new and better lies about how things “went
down” last year.
Either way, Higgs, as a
critical care nurse should know how to kill himself. Neither of his attempts
were life threatening and after two tries, he should know what he did wrong.
Let’s hope he succeeds the next time. As they say, “The third time is a
charm.”
