Bush - Like a Gangster
July 3, 2007
Like a Mafia gangster boss, on July 2nd, Bush
commuted the jail sentence for Scooter Libby but kept his probation and
$250,000 fine intact. Like a mobster he made sure the man who protected him
by refusing to divulge secrets was kept from justice. For Bush, the
commutation was a small political price to pay for keeping a lid on illegal
White House activities centered on Cheney and Rove.
Libby was legally tried and convicted. The jury and
appellate court made their decision based on law but Bush callously
nullified their actions by the commutation. He said Libby's jail sentence
was excessive and now says a full pardon may be possible. By intervening in
the case, Bush condones criminality and lies when he represents himself as
having a law and order Administration.
Bush and his supporters are in a powerful minority and in
control of the legal system. Most Americans believe Libby should go to jail
because no one is above the law.
The Libby commutation shows the rules apply to everyone
but a few. It solidifies the dislike and distrust Americans have for
Bush and the Republican party and will help insure future Republican
political losses.
Despite the fallout Bush and Cheney do not care. Like
psychopaths, they feel they have done nothing wrong and it is everyone else
who doesn't get it.
