English is NOT Racist
Mr. Reid, Maybe YOU Are
May 19, 2006
On May 18, 2006, Senator Harry Reid said a senate
amendment to make English the official language was racist. He said:
"This amendment is racist. I think it's directed
basically to people who speak Spanish," http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20060518-114129-1805r.htm
After Reid made his comments, the Senate overwhelmingly
authorized the measure and went on to declare in another, that the English
was “common and unifying”.
Senator Reid is out of step and his statements are silly.
He needs to shut up, think and apologize for using the “race card”. No one
appreciates such tactics, even those who learn English as a second language.
Reid apparently does not understand that English is
important for everyone who wishes to succeed. We assume he knows this.
Americans disagree with Reid including Spanish speaking
immigrants. Why? Because they know that those who learn English do better.
It means they will understand how to navigate American society and are able
to find a better job.
English should have been required long time ago. It seems
most Americans have supported this concept for years but sadly the Senate is
just now getting around to understanding this fundamental issue.
Reid speaks a language of political bullshit that most
Americans find offensive, like being a racist. Not that Reid is a racist but
he seems to define English speaking Americans as such. Self hatred is such a
nasty thing; maybe Reid is too.
