Death
of American Democracy
August 11, 2006
It unquestionably started with the Neo-con success in
2000 when Bush was selected to occupy the White House. Though the popular
vote was not his, he gained power through a technicality. The legitimacy of
this government coup was upheld by a corrupt Supreme Court.
Since that critical time the Executive branch has been
successfully taking every opportunity to take and hold more power. They have
been successful because the balance of power envisioned in the Constitution
no longer works. Our checks and balances not longer exist because all
branches were and are part of the 2000 Coup with the central loyalty to the
Bush-Republican Party. This makes certain that all share power with Bush and
keeps them satisfied.
In a democracy, civil opposition parties are not
enemies in the strict sense. People understand that in a pre-Bush regime,
people talk war-like but recognize when the elections are over; there is
cooperation and a fundamental desire to do what is right for all Americans.
Not so any more. Opposition to the Republican Party and the White House is
now considered un-American. For example, Cheney implied that those who
voted against Joe Lieberman this month supported the terrorists and
presumably were also un-American.
Bush’s black and white view of the world makes
everyone an enemy unless you are clearly supporting him. Millions of
Americans are now enemies of the state or could be soon according to the
Bush-Republican White House.
In the future, the faces of our dictatorship will
change but the power struggle between the U.S. government and its people
will continue and get worse.
Our fledgling dictatorship shows itself in what it has
done, which is:
Lying about WMDs to start a war in Iraq so the
wealthy and big businesses can reap the profits. The war was most
importantly a foothold in the Middle East to exert more control in the
area and with Israel's help, Iran, a member of Bush's “Axis of Evil will
be easier to attack. Bush-Republicans are increasingly characterizing
this as a ‘struggle”, giving it a moral character it does not deserve.
Falsifying and magnifying terrorist threats to
engender fear and creating a War on Terror for terror's sake. This
confuses people and make them vulnerable to more lies.
Drafting amendments to a war crimes law to
eliminate the risk of criminal prosecution for regime participants such
as CIA officers and military personnel. This would sweep away legal
challenges to anticipated wars and battles here and overseas.
Spending beyond our means by adding about a
trillion dollars in debt each year since 2001. This debt has benefited
the wealthy and large businesses and Incredibly we have only ongoing war
to show for most of it.
Failing to secure our borders from threats. The
result is that millions of illegals have entered flaunting existing laws
but supported by Bush-Republicans as being a business necessity. These
are people have no allegiance to America and take more than they give.
Controlling the news using self-serving propaganda
such as falsifying news stories about Iraq and its political opponents.
For example, all public appearances by Bush and his adherents are
controlled for maximum effect like the Nazi government did years ago by
vetting audiences and staging events for maximum effect .
Allowing brutal suppression of free speech at Bush
appearances by using intimidation, exclusion and arrests. This shows
little patience for those who challenge Bush. It further shows criminal
contempt for Americans and our democracy.
Merging the state with religion to legitimize
Christian zealots who find the current regime to their liking. This
unholy alliance creates division within our troubled nation and wars
outside such the Iraq and the 2006 Middle East wars. Disturbingly, it
gives a veneer of moral authority to violence and killing. Many would
call this evil.
Creating and using the Patriot Act to spy on and
imprison Americans. The act puts into the law, methods to gradually and
secretly destroy our democratic system by demonizing Americans and
allowing the government more control. It legitimizes previously criminal
activities.
Expanding military court authority to “legally”
dispose of current and future terrorism cases. This militarizes a secret
legal system that will certainly seek out and unjustly arrest more
“enemies of the state”. Unfortunately an enemy could you or your
neighbor speaking out against Bush.
For example, Tony Snow,
White House press secretary apparently claimed on August 9th
that those who were anti-war (Iraq) support terrorism. If so, 60 percent
of adult Americans are terrorists and enemies of the state. Incredibly
he could not see that his statement was un-American.
Bush calls those opposing the Bush-Iraqi government as
an insurgency. Let's then become American insurgents and passionately oppose
the Bush-Republican government here. It is our duty to defend the
Constitution and its underlying principles and opposing dictatorship in
America at every level and in every way is patriotic.
