November 23, 2005
On November 18th, during a debate in the
House of Representatives, partisan name-calling began after Representative
John Murtha, D-Pa., an original supporter of the Iraq war, called for the
pullout of U.S. troops. Republicans immediately went on the attack against
the decorated Vietnam vet by sending out Representative Jean Schmidt, R-Ohio
to bite back.
With her face scrunched with hatred, she
said, “A Marine colonel "asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message -
that cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
After her rabid partisan attack, Schmidt
was directly confronted by elements from both parties and she backed off a
bit but on November 23rd she said she would have said exactly the same thing
but wouldn't have used Murtha's name.
What a typical Republican coward she is.
Her vehemence and nastiness represents
the new Republican Party that now favors lies over truth, name calling over
honest debate and war over peace.
The Republican
Party used to be for fiscal responsibility but no more... it has spent
America into unimaginable national debt of over 8 trillion dollars after
promptly spending surpluses collected in the 1990s.
The Republican
party used to be for the Constitution but no more... it wants to alter the
constitution to reflect what they consider as "Christian values" when our
nation was founded on equality for all people and no state religion.
The Republican
Party used to be for war only when absolutely necessary for the defense of
the country, but no more... it is now used for political gain, and to
instill fear and to mercilessly attack those they don't agree with such as
Iraqis.
The Republican
Party use to be about morality and decency but no more... Bush declared he
was against torture but Cheney campaigned for it in Congress at the same
time he said that.
The Republican
Party used to be for the capitalist system, but no more... it bestows
billions to oil and pharmaceutical companies and agricultural interests
which in turn gives them even more political and economic clout. They forgot
that taxes belong to every American and for every American and are not
spoils of politics.
The Republican
Party used to believe in honesty and integrity, their presidential candidate
even pledged this, but no more ... too often Republicans are being charged,
tried and convicted of crimes at the state and federal levels and they still
call themselves "Christian" and law abiding. They reject calls for openness
and clarity because they are too busy getting away with their crimes to
listen to its citizens.
The Republican Party promised to give
Americans a democracy that would meet the demands of its citizens, but it
did not. After gaining control of Congress and the White House, Americans
were immediately shafted with a tax cut principally for the rich and then
with a war in Iraq that was planned in early 2001.
The Republican Party and its members are
at best, just a pile of typical political scum but incredibly they have
moved beyond that to a party with absolute evil intent to enrich themselves
with money and power and Americans be damned.
Where is Barry Goldwater when you need
him? His spirit is certainly dead in Washington, D.C.
