Terri Schiavo's Death

March 18, 2005

On March 18, 2005, the feeding tube keeping Terri alive was removed and she will now die of starvation. The same judge who supported her husband’s wish to kill her said Congress had no authority to save Terri from death so the tube was removed.

Earlier in the day, the Republican Congress issued subpoenas for Terri, her estranged “husband”, Michael and her caregivers. This was an attempt to keep her alive so she and others could testify or appear before them.

It is distressing to hear she will die in the next couple weeks. What a painful and pitiful death that no one should endure. It is wrong and immoral.

Every clear thinking adult has the right, in most states, to end unnecessary procedures to extend life. They usually put their wishes in writing and tell friends and relatives about them.

In this case, the only person she told was her “husband” whose assertion that “Terri would have wanted this,” is not believable. He certainly does not have a mandate from Terri.

There is a reasonable doubt as to what Terri would have wanted. There are also doubts about how she came to be in the situation she is in today. Some allege that she was assaulted and this caused her current condition.

Since there are reasonable doubts about Terri's wishes so we must keep her alive. This is a societal mandate and the right thing to do.

Yet, Terri’s enemies continue to attack her in the legal system, hiding behind laws and rulings. Terri's parents are willing to care for her and recently a rich man  offered her husband a million dollars to let Terri live. Yet, her “husband”, his attorney and a court judge have all said no.

Shocking.

What is truly shocking is what the “husband’s” attorney, George Felos said about Congress' attempt to save her life today,

“It was odious, it was shocking, it was disgusting and I think all Americans should be very alarmed about that…”  He also said the subpoena card Congress played today was, “nothing short of thuggery.”

Thuggery is defined by the actions of three men, the “husband”, his attorney and a judge. They see no problem in killing and presumably have no remorse. They are pathetic human beings and their actions define what is disgusting.

It is no surprise an attorney and a judge are part of this sordid affair.
