Our
Soldiers as a Political Shield
November 20, 2005
On November 20th, Bush said at a symbolic
speech in South Korea that U.S. troops will remain in Iraq "until we have
achieved the victory that our brave troops have fought for." and went on to
declare, "The defense of freedom is worth our sacrifice," ; "The cause of
freedom will once again prevail." During his address he linked Iraq with
terrorism, and the global strategy on terror.
His response again, is to stand up on a
stage in front of our soldiers and make a speech about how he supports them
in the war effort. Of course the response is positive; each soldier is hand
picked as usual, with no questions permitted. He presents himself as the
Commander in Chief for another political photo-op. Who would confront him?
Why would they? They are not allowed, that's why.
Bush is undoubtedly under pressure. He lied
to start an illegal and unilateral war, and after a couple years he is
finally being called on it by both the Democrats and Republicans in
Congress. His honesty is being openly questioned by most Americans and his
approval ratings are about 35%. With continual challenges to the Iraq War
and his domestic polices and responses, the beleaguered Bush must do what he
can to fend off attacks.
With no more credible excuses and little
support, he uses our military as a shield against his critics. It is pitiful
politics when an unpatriotic politician such as Bush uses our soldiers,
alive and dead as a justification to continue a war. Johnson and Nixon used
the same tactics during the Vietnam War and failed. American saw through it
as they do now.
Beware when politicians, or anyone calls
our soldiers heroes and make references to their sacrifice. They don't mean
it and are merely protecting themselves and hiding from the truth. It is
only narrow minded people who must applaud a soldier to hide their cowardice
and evil intent.
Shame!
