Congressional
Cowards
February 5, 2005
Iraq had a democratic election a little while ago. The big problems were
threats and bombs at polling places before and during the election. Despite
this, many Iraqis voted though we don't know how many. This was certainly an
act of courage on their part and the symbol of that, was an ink-stained
finger after voting.
How many Americans would vote under the threat of death? Not many. How many
would even want an ink stained finger? None! Millions don't register and
millions don't vote for a variety of life threatening reasons like, "It's
raining" or "I don't have time".
No time indeed!
At the State of the Union address on February 2nd, many Congressional
members, mostly Republicans, arrived with ink stained index fingers
presumably to show solidarity with voting Iraqis. How dare they! What
cowards they are.
Not one would vote in
Iraq. Not one!
How much courage did it take for them to make a self serving political
statement for national television? Not much. These cocooned and
muddle-headed politicians arrived in limos, and were escorted through
exceptional security to sit for a while. There was nothing to risk and yet
they are implying a kinship with voting Iraqis.
Shame!
Those congressional cowards used the Iraqi election and courage for self
serving politics and in doing so, disrespected all Iraqis. They do not
understand what courage is. How could they? Few members have even
served in the military or put their lives at risk to do much of anything.
They seem to think they had something substantially invested in the Iraqi
election. Not true. They don't get it, again. The people who "risked it all"
were voting Iraqis and the U.S. servicemen protecting them. They have
courage our Congress does not have.
Congress must get its head out of its collective ass and understand that
"commitment to freedom" means more than a show of fingers.
They need to understand
that many Americans would like to "give them the finger" for their failure
to critically look at the War in Iraq. They need to put down their
hypocritical fingers and start serving the interests of all Americans.
Unfortunately they won't,
they don't have the guts. They are cowards!
