Republican Congress 2004
July 18, 2004
Republicans are in
control of both sides of the Congress. They made a big deal out if it about
four years ago, promising all sorts of action of issues stalled by the
Democrats. They promised to work hard for the American people.
All lies.
In 2004, the 108th
Congress is now the laziest one on record. It has taken more time off than
any other since 1948. It will leave for a summer break in late July and when
they do, they will leave behind many unresolved issues such as.
◊
A Fiscal year 2005 budget still not passed which will spend more and do
little to reduce debt. Even if passed it won’t adequately address the
economic mess Republican tax cuts for big companies and the rich have
created.
◊ A one third
trillion highway bill that is a true job bill that will help states put
thousands to work at good paying jobs and not the thousands of new minimum
wage jobs Republicans tout as a success of their economic program.
◊ An energy
bill to insure America has the energy supplies it needs.
Congress stalls, sits
around, and is missing in action when business calls. They are not upholding
their promises to work for Americans. We deserve better.
With the nation at
war, with record deficits, and millions unemployed, the Republican
controlled Congress is content to sit on its butt and do nothing.
This is un-American.
