The United Nations is Nothing Anymore
March 20, 2003An instructor at Afghan's Air Force
Academy in Kabul said of the war on Iraq, "Today is a dark day for Muslims,
the United Nations is nothing anymore."
He is right, but for different reasons.
Many like him, see the attack on Iraq as unjustified aggression the UN could
not stop. They see a super power stomping around, inflicting hurt on other
countries, especially Muslim countries. They vent their anger using terms
as, "barbaric", and "American tyranny". They even take their children to
anti-American rallies and have them shout they are willing to give their
"souls and blood for Saddam."
"Old Europe" and their allies believe the war is unjustifiable because
America isn't directly threatened and containment will solve the problem.
They have made things difficult just because they fear and hate America.
Their self interests are oil economics and political power within the
European Union and elsewhere.
I see this war as the next step in the War on Terrorism.
The war is certainly in our self interests. Mainly, we are trying to enhance
our long term security. We want this for others as well.
A democratic Iraq would be a good thing. It would mean the Iraqi people
could do what they wanted with THEIR country.
This war is identifying who is a terrorist. We may be surprised at the
result. Saddam's supporters are not appeasers, they are supporters of
terrorism. They are afraid of a successful war because it would mean
exposing them for what THEY are. Terrorists.
Know them by their actions and reactions. Inside or outside the U.S.
Don't believe their offers of humanitarian aid after a war or
assistance if bio or chemical weapons are used by Iraq. Don't believe
their lies.
Terrorism has many faces.
Feel their hatred, their contempt, and fear. Let that make us
resolute in the War on Terrorism.
