The Air Force Academy Sexual Assault Cover-up
April 18, 2003
Recently, Colorado Congressman Joel Hefley (R) was criticized for changes
he made to a proposal to set up a panel to investigate the Air Force Academy
sexual assaults. On a weekend, and in secret, he made changes to protect the
management of the academy. He did this by removing the words,
"accountability and responsibility" from the proposal which now states there
will only be a "study" of the policies at the academy.
To quickly "seal the deal", Bush signed the proposal a few days
later on April 16, 2003.
Both got caught, but will anyone care?
The women who reported their assaults were blamed for them and nothing
was done. Now, Hefley continues the abuse and the President endorses it!
Accountability and responsibility are part of honesty. This requirement
was removed because Hefley and Bush do not believe in honesty. This is
shameful and unacceptable!
Without honesty and accountability, this issue will not be resolved no
matter who is appointed to the investigative panel in May.
