Rush Limbaugh Should be "Sent Up" to
Prison
October 11, 2003
Rush Limbaugh finally admitted he has a drug problem and will be entering a
clinic to beat the addiction. He allegedly bought Oxycontin also called
"Hillbilly Heroin" through his housekeeper.
For years Rush has been defending the war on drugs and its cruel
ramifications such as severe prison sentences for non-violent offenders. He
never stopped to think about what he was saying when he wanted drug addicts
to be sent away for a long time. Now, he is a drug abuser like so many
others, and if we were to follow the conservative line he has been spewing,
he must be sent up to prison for a long time.
Consider his past anti- drug statements:
"We're going to let you destroy your life. We're going to make it easy
and then all of us who accept the responsibilities of life and don't destroy
our lives on drugs, we'll pay for whatever messes you get into."
Rush Limbaugh show, Dec. 9, 1993
" Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws
against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And
so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused
and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up,"
Rush Limbaugh television show
,Oct. 5, 1995.
" When you strip it all away, Jerry Garcia destroyed his life on drugs.
And yet he's being honored, like some godlike figure. Our priorities are out
of whack, folks." Rush Limbaugh co0mmenting on Jerry
Garcia's death.
Rush must hold himself to the same standards he has been holding the rest of
America and that would be lots of hard time. If he can't do the time then he
shouldn't have done the crime. Under federal sentencing guidelines,
possession of the amount of Oxycontin Rush allegedly had could get him 10
years.
Further, anyone who defends Rush has their priorities out of whack. They are
not true believers in the war on drugs, they don't care what happens to our
society and way of life. They are not much better than the dope dealer or
fiend, who care only for a quick fix or money. We must never hold them, to
be anyone of value. Send them all up.
Just kidding.
Few can be as mean spirited as Rush and his supporters. The man has a
problem and he is trying to fix it (for the third time). Though his views
can be shallow and parochial his does have value as a human being and as
radio broadcasting professional. Many can see beyond his addiction,
something Rush has not been able to do for others.
Maybe he "will get it" now all this is public.
But, sending him to prison would make for a good talk show. He could give us
first hand accounts of the prison conditions, gang and race problems, and
perhaps interview non-violent drug addicts such as himself. Rush could think
of this as a public service and not hard time. Everybody wins and our
American way of life is preserved! Ditto-heads would be proud!
