Problems with Dubya
August 9,
2003
- He is an unelected
President, selected by the courts and not the people. The basic tenant of
democracy is the people's election of their leaders and this did not
happen in 2000.
- He does not feel
the need to separate Church and State. This separation protects those who
have a religion from the government and the government from religion. He
wants to have educational and welfare programs run only by religious
groups he likes.
- His administration
failed to take terrorism seriously before the attacks on 9/11. He had the
opportunity to kill bin Laden three times using armed drones before 9/11
but refused to do so.
- The new warfare
policy of unilateral response to perceived threats and no actual threat
puts the U.S. on the brink of war at all times. Wars are now driven by
administration desires and public relations. Hence the exaggerations and
distortions before we invaded Iraq.
- Those with money
are being courted and untaxed. The tax breaks have focused on the wealthy
with small pieces to the "regular guy" to keep him quiet. He has collected
millions in donations, more than any other president in history in such a
short time.
- WMDs were touted as
a reason for the Iraq War in 2003. So far, there are no WMDs and no
explanation as to why. Most people believe they were there but: Did they
leave Iraq? Where are they?
- The surpluses of
the Clinton era are now a massive deficit due to tax cuts, increases in
defense spending and homeland security.
- The federal
government is bigger than ever though he claims to hate more and bigger
government. The biggest addition has been the Homeland Security
Department.
- He has developed
formal and informal policies to benefit an inner circle of rich people and
companies, especially those in oil, mining, logging and construction.
Hundreds of laws have been changed administratively within agencies such
as the EPA and OSHA to lower standards.
- Billions in
government contracts have been awarded, without competition, to
corporations formerly run by administration officials.
- He projects an
image of a military leader but evaded service in Vietnam and was absent
from National Guard duty for more than a year. At that time, refused to
take a medical exam, probably due to his "youthful indiscretions" with
cocaine and alcohol.
- The terrorism
threat has been used to enact laws contrary to constitutional freedoms and
has created an environment of fear. The Patriot Acts are a symptom of
this.
- He cannot manage to
get the intelligence agencies to cooperate even after 9/11.
- He supports
Clinton-Gore gun ban enacted in 1994 and wants to re-institute the
so-called "assault weapons" ban scheduled to sunset in 2004.
- He plans to create
a Palestinian state run by radicals. This was proposed by Clinton, and
criticized by conservatives as being a bad idea, yet this is a cornerstone
of his mid-East peace plan.
- The 9/11 report is
incomplete because his administration, at various levels, refused to
cooperate or provide requested information. In addition, the final report
in July has many pages blacked out for "security reasons". The Saudi
government, the topic within the redacted pages, says is wants the pages
made public knowing very well Bush will not do that. His deal with the
Saudis shows a lack of commitment for the "War on Terrorism".
- The borders with
Mexico and Canada are out of control. This especially so with our border
with Mexico. He has not done anything that has or will stop illegal aliens
from entering the US. Conservatives criticized Clinton for ignoring
illegal alien issues and Bush gets away with it. The reason is the
Hispanic vote in 2004 for his re-election campaign.
- The war in
Afghanistan is not going well because of no clear plan or money. Further,
many of the best anti-terror teams have been transferred to Iraq, and
replaced with inexperienced troops. Security in Afghanistan is poor and
getting worse and there is rampant banditry. Bush promised a
reconstruction plan for Afghanistan, and after spending hundreds of
millions the results have been very poor. Plus, opium production is
improving so warlords can finance terrorists to attack our soldiers. The
Taliban is getting stronger and bolder.
- His "bring them on"
comment has resulted in more attacks on our soldiers, increasing from a
few a day to more than a dozen a day. The result has been scores of
American deaths and injuries.
-
His past is cloaked in secrecy. The following types of records have been
sealed from public scrutiny: Records as governor of Texas; SEC
investigations of insider trading; Meetings he attended as aboard member
for a public company; and Meetings minutes regarding U.S. public energy
policy, involving large energy corporations and their corrupt officers.
