No Moral High Ground in ANY War

March 12, 2003

War is killing and destruction. It is a BIG waste of lives and resources and a drain on the vitality of any people or country. War is opposite of what we like to think humans can aspire to, what we can achieve.

I cringe every time someone, anyone, brings up morality as a way to defend a war.

War is immoral. It always had been and always will be. There is NO "just war".

Though war is  immoral, it should not stop what we need to do, however tragic the consequences. It means when the fight has started, it must be finished. Or at least we try to "finish" it.

As humans we should know better. The collective human mind should be able to avoid war. In the end, no human institutions, religious or secular has helped us avoid war. That is sad.

Is this to be our lot? Conflict and death in our lives from birth to grave? Is it a lesson? If we must have this, then what is to be learned?

The lesson teaches us that war is immoral because it is bad. Just plain bad.

We need to ask God about how to find peace.
