Nancy Pelosi Needs to Take
Responsibility
October 26, 2003
U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said the INS raids on dozens
of U.S. Wal-Mart stores in the search for illegal immigrants on October 23rd
amounted to terrorism against workers. She said the raids instill fear in
" people who are only trying to earn a living and put food on the table for
their family."
Pelosi also said after a meeting with Mexico's President, Vincente Fox, the
focus should not be on the employee (illegal alien) but the employer. She
said the process would be less terrorizing for employees if the employer was
faulted.
Nonsense!
Pelosi is just trying to garner additional votes for herself and others by
pandering to Fox and Mexicans legal or otherwise. This is pure politics. She
doesn't really care about INS terrorizing illegals, she is just using
them for her gain.
She is right that Wal-Mart and its contractors need to do a better job and
document all workers.
Companies must also follow the law. If they have been
found to knowingly hire illegal aliens, then they need to face criminal and
civil charges according to the law.
That said, we must expect individual responsibility too. Every person is
expected to follow the law. That means anyone in the United States illegally
must expect some sort of discipline if caught. They know they are here
illegally and they know where to go to set things right but they made a
choice and didn't do it.
Sure, getting caught and deported is rough for them and their families. But
it was their decision. They must take responsibility and become legal
residents so their spouses and children are not affected. A person who loves
their family would do this.... no arguments or whining. No hiding behind
whiny politicians like Pelosi.
Nancy Pelosi must accept responsibility too. She and her colleagues refuse
to solve the illegal alien issue and instead, use it for political gain.
They talk about it, promise laws and investigations. Promises don't solve
the problem.
The United States is still the
illegal alien magnet of the world. It is a magnet because there are no
significant consequences if caught and politicians are too busy getting
votes to care.
The INS needs to take responsibility as well. It needs to
be efficient and enforce their laws equitably. They are certainly
caught in the middle. Their activities are directed by politicians who won't
change laws or give more resources to fix the problem and blame them if
something goes wrong. Still, they must their job as best they can.
Finally, the "average" citizen must tell their elected
officials like Pelosi that illegal aliens cause terror for them because
porous borders weaken national security.
It is amazing we have yet to solve this issue even after
direct terrorist attacks on our soil. Incredibly, Congress and the White
House do not have a sense of urgency about this.
What about responsibility? Is this a four-letter
word, not to be said or accepted?
