Julian Bond's Hate Speech
August 8, 2003
Julian Bond, the Chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People (NAACP) said the following about the Republican party in his
speech at the annual NAACP convention:
"One party repeatedly plays the race card, appealing to
the dark underside of American culture, to that minority of Americans who
reject democracy and equality. In coded racial appeals, they embrace
Confederate leaders as patriots and wallow in a victim mentality. They
preach racial neutrality and practice racial division. They celebrate Martin
Luther King and misuse his message. Their idea of reparations is to give war
criminal Jefferson Davis a pardon. Their idea of equal rights is the
American flag and Confederate swastika flying side by side."
These statements are racially offensive and wrong. Even
the President of the NAACP, Kweisi Mfume criticized Bond for making the
statements and tried to distance himself from them.
However, Mr. Mfume did say in his address at the same
convention: "We've got to, I think, on our end, have respect for the system
of government in Cuba."
This certainly diminishes his credibility as a critical
thinker, if he had any to start with.
Julian Bond has a decades long history of leftist
leanings including associations with communists. This explains why he cannot
see himself for what he is, a racist black man. His ideology is his religion
and it blinds him to reality.
Bond believes his past reputation supporting black rights
will shield him forever from the hateful and racist things he says in the
present.
Wrong.
We don't need racist people like Julian Bond anymore than we need racist KKK
members who he refers to in his speech as "stupid". Being a black
racist man certainly makes him just as stupid as any white KKK member.
